Before leaving Salt Lake City. on Wednesday night, we ate at The Roof near Temple Square. It was a buffet that, despite pictures to the contrary, had all kinds of yummy foods, not just desserts! The desserts were my favorites, though! Because the restaurant was LDS owned, they served no caffeinated beverages or alcohol. Above we have mint-chocolate cake, an eclair, a petit four, and a lemon tart. Below is red velvet cake, a peach crepe and creme brulee. If Lindsey (my trainer is reading this), we have been eating pretty well before and after this...lol!!!
We were on the 10th floor overlooking the Temple, which was illuminated as it got darker.Following our lovely dinner, we toured the city in a horse drawn carriage. Bart was the handsome Clydesdale pulling the cart. Our driver and tour guide was Mindy. We rode around for 40 minutes, seeing the town and hearing about its history.
Yesterday morning we got on the road with Barbara trying out the car adapter for her Hansen Mini-spinner. It worked well and I got about 8oz of fiber spun. Looking forward to getting more bobbins at Black Sheep Gathering.
Photos of the Great Salt Lake are absent, as it is hard to stop on the highway to take them or to taste the water. Martha and I managed, when we came through many years ago, but Roland and I couldn't find a good spot this trip.
After the lake there are many miles of salt flats. We passed the Morton Salt facility, but were disappointed to see that they don't give tours.
We also passed the Bonneville Salt Flats, where the land speed records are set. The salt sticks to your feet, so you have to wash them off before you go. We saw a couple of people with a sail on wheels. The said they can get up to 50 mph in it!
In Nevada we took a side trip to Angel Lake in the Humboldt National Forest...note the pictures...they appear to have a different definition if forest than I do, as there were no "real trees" in the area. A few stunted aspen and shrubs about covered it!
You can see the outside air temp was 70 degrees, yet there was still ice on the lake that Roland is wading in and he made his first summer snowman. It is a weird feeling to be standing barefoot in freezing cold snow and yet be wearing shorts!
Yes...the snowball Roland threw at me hit me...it isn't easy to take a picture of a moving snowball and still get out of the way in time...see the sacrifices I make so that you can see our trip???
Today we are headed to lava caves and then to Eugene for Black Sheep Gathering. We will spend the next two nights in our tent, so we probably won't be online!
That is a beautiful photograph of you in the horse drawn carriage! Roland, you look more relaxed than the last time I saw you. Then you were just exhausted! Have fun you two!
