We are on our way...

Welcome to EWE and me - a blog of our trip from the East to the West and back East.

We are Barbara and Roland, who have been married 25 years. We are taking 3 weeks to see the country by car, with our "destination" as the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, OR. Really, though, we are trying to be in the moment and enjoy the many destinations along the way.

The trip began on Thursday, June 16. After a hectic morning trying to get ready, we left around noon. First stop was the Atlantic Ocean. We drove south through CT and stopped at Seaside Park. There is a statue of P. T. Barnum at the entrance. In a little over a week, we will be at the Pacific...all the way across the country. The beach was loaded with shells, so we stopped and picked up a bunch for Lilly. She loves her "collection" of shells on our porch, so we are adding to it.

The next stop was in Elmsford, NY. The armless Paul Bunyan muffler man greeted us there, for this quicky photo stop. Back on the highway and on to Ringoes, New Jersey to spend the night at Auntie Chris' house. After dinner we went to one of favorite stops - Rita's in Flemington for Italian Ice and Custard. Yummy!

On the way back to Chris' we saw the courthouse where they held the trial for the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, in East Amwell, New Jersey. Bruno Hauptmann was ultimately convicted of the crime, though locals still wonder if he really did it.
